1. Holes by Louis Sachar
Stanley Yelnets can either go to "Camp Green Lake" or jail after he is falsely convicted of stealing a pair of autographed shoes that were donated to charity. So Stanley ends up at Camp Green Lake which he later figures out isn't much better than jail at all! This seems like something I would do, get in trouble for something I didnt actaually do! This relation interests me.
2. Soul Surfer by Bethany Hamilton, Sherly Derk
Bethany Hamilton was born and raised in Hawaii, she dreams of becoming a pro surfer one day. But one afternoon a surf goes awfully wrong when Bethany is out of nowhere bitten by a Great White shark. She was rushed to the hospital to realize she had lost an arm her life would never be the same. I have been to the exact place that all of this happened, after I visited the place it made me want to learn all about what happened to Bethany.
3. Twilight by Stephanie Meyer
Bella moves to a new school where she knows nobody. She has no clue what to expect but it doesnt take long for her to meet a very strange boy named Edward Cullen. She knows something about Edward and Edward's family is very different, it takes Bella a while before she realizes the family is a family of vampires! I have already seen this movie so I wanted to see how the book differs and learn more about the basis of the story.
4. The Blindside by Michael Lewis
Michael Oher is a homeless 18 year old boy who is found walking down the street late on a cold night by wealthy family. The family takes Michael in and let him live there. It turns out Michael is an outstanding football player, he ends up getting a scholarship to Ole Miss and eventually playing in the NFL. I play football and I have my whole life so anything about football really interests me and makes me want to learn about it.
5. Columbine high by dave Cullen.
3 kids go to Columbine high, they are normal kids for the most part. These kids are active in sports and extra activities. They have many friends and are respected kids but one day they get a sick plan to bomb the school and kill as many kids as possible. They do it but they fall short of their hopes. I am in High School so this hits me right at home, it makes me think about everything that could happen. It sparks my imagination and makes me branch out and that is always a positive.
6. The Bus by Jerome Bettis
Jerome is a drug dealing 16 year old who doesn't know if he will die or go to jail first when all of the sudden he realizes that he has a miraculous football talent. He gets all american honors in High School and plays football at Notre Dame in college and eventually becomes all pro for the steelers. I have seen Jerome Bettis plahy before in Pittsburg and before hearing of this book I had no idea he had been through tough times. That is what inspires me to read it.
7. Shaun Alexander by Shaun Alexander
Shaun grew up in the hood but he was very religous and always was a known Christian. He fought through the hard parts of life with God's help. He had a rough home life but always worked hard to be a good football player. He eventually became really good and played in the NFL for the Seahawks. Shaun is a christian athlete which is exactly what I am. It is very inspirational to hear the story of people similiar to me and how they overcame the challenges they faced.
8. Tim Tebows life by Tim Tebow
Tim was always a great football player as well as a great Christian. He never gave up on either one of them and he won the heisman award and now plays in the NFL and displays his love for God for the whole world to see he uses his gift to help everyone. Tim is a christian athlete who does something most of us are not willing to do. He broadcasts his beliefs to the whole world when he knows many will oppose. I need the courage to do that and hopefully this book will give it to me.
9. Gun Stories by Beth Atkin
So many people in the United States have guns that should not have them. Guns can be scary things they are very dangerous. This is a big book about all the close calls and scary things people have to deal with involving guns. I have owned guns my whole life. I have grew up hunting and shooting guns for recreational purposes. Learning about people similiar to me that enjoy handling guns is fun to do. It will also be informative to learn about the people who have had bad stories with guns.
10. Underage Drinking by Noel Moreno
This is a documentary type book about all the stories and side affects of teenage drinking. Underage drinking has horrible side affects on kids. Some of the damagw can last the rest of the kids lifes. THis is a very serious topic. I have never been a drinker but I know people around my age who have. If this book tells me some of the negative effects of underage drinking I will be able to share it with the people I know do this and that could save lives.
